1/ Chào hỏi Greetings

In this module, you will learn the most commonly used basic expressions in Vietnamese. We will look at phrases such as “hello,” “thank you,” “sorry/excuse me,” and more. For now, we recommend that you don’t worry too much about the structure, word order, or the meaning of every single word. We will cover all of that gradually in the following modules. This module is a first introduction to the Vietnamese language, to help you get used to its tones. Let’s get started!
2/ Đại từ nhân xưng Personal pronouns

Expressing “I” and “you” in Vietnamese is a bit more fun than in French. In Vietnamese, different words are used depending on a person’s age, social status/hierarchy, or gender. In this module, we will learn how to use these different pronouns. By the end of this module, you will better understand how Vietnamese speakers express the first and second person singular.
3/ Có và là Have and Be

This module introduces Vietnamese words that roughly correspond to the French verbs “to have” and “to be.” Through various examples, you will learn how to use these Vietnamese words correctly, as well as how to express what you have and what you are, and how to say what you want. We will also see how to say “yes” and “no” in Vietnamese, and you will learn several new words.

In this module, we will learn how to introduce ourselves in Vietnamese. We will see how to ask someone’s first name, as well as how to say your own. In this module, we will learn demonstratives—words used to point to or refer to people, places, or objects. These words are used very frequently in the language, and we will cover their main uses in this module. In this module, we will look at common question words in Vietnamese, how to use them, and what they mean. We will also learn how to answer different types of questions to help you communicate better in Vietnamese. In this module, we will learn prepositions of place. You will learn how to express the position of objects or people, so that you can describe where something is more precisely. In this module, we will talk about family. We will look at the most common words used to name each family member. We will also learn a few related grammar points, as well as useful model sentences for introducing your family. By the end of this module, you will be able to understand and talk easily about your family or someone else’s family.

In this module, we will learn numbers in Vietnamese. We will learn them in a fun way by doing a bit of math. We will also cover how to say your phone number and how to ask for it, as well as how to ask the price of something. In this module, we will learn how to talk about time—meaning words like “morning,” “evening,” and so on. We will show you how to express the past in Vietnamese, and also how to talk about an action that started earlier and is still continuing now. By the end of this module, you will be able to talk about past events and describe the different times of the day more precisely.

In this module, we will take a closer look at different ways of expressing time. Vietnamese does not conjugate verbs; instead, when needed, it uses time markers to indicate tense. We will learn how to express the future, the near future, the past, and an ongoing action. By the end of this module, you will be able to express yourself more easily across different time frames.

In this module, we will review what we have learned so far about verbs. You will also learn how to build longer sentences using a contrasting conjunction as well as a comparative conjunction. By the end of this module, you will be able to talk about everyday life, express an opposing idea, and list or enumerate things.
